International students

The Department welcomes applications from overseas students. Typically a quarter of our student intake is from overseas for undergraduate courses and around 85% for postgraduate courses.
We have for many years recruited students from all over the world including Malaysia, Brunei, Hong Kong, India, China, Nigeria, Gabon, Kenya, America and Europe. We value the contribution that our overseas students make to the Department and to the student experience.
Entry requirements
Students are able to gain entry to our programmes with a variety of qualifications. Overseas students need to satisfy the University's English Language requirement before being accepted onto a degree programme. More information about entry requirements can be found within the postgraduate and undergraduate study sections of our website.
Year in industry
Overseas students studying on our undergraduate courses are most welcome to undertake the year in industry option (Diploma in Industrial Studies). No work visa is required as the placement is covered by the student visa.
This provides an excellent opportunity to gain valuable professional experience in the UK. You earn a salary from the company (typically £16,500). In 2009 the fees for the year in industry were only £2,100. This allows most students to save money over the course of the placement.
Student accommodation and support
Overseas students are guaranteed a room in Hall of Residence for two years of study. Student bedrooms are networked, making it easy to keep in touch with family and friends via the internet. The student run International Student’s Association organises numerous popular social events including visits to different parts of the UK.
More general information for overseas applicants can be found on our International Office website.
